URPoint Details
From the Old English and Latin meaning the place at the sallow-tree which belongs to the monks
The village is set in a lonely and remote part of Devon with a winding street of thatch and cob houses.
A steep climb to the church is worth it, as the views to Dartmoor are impressive.
There is also a lovely walk across the hills to the village of Loosebeare one mile north.
The church dates from the 14th century, but the font is Norman with an 18th century cover. The remains of two stone crosses can be found in the churchyard.
