Reached by a winding road the area has a lot to offer including a fine Jacobean manor, small 12th century church and at Yarbridge is Alverstone Watermill and the hamlet of Queen’s Bower, so named after Isabella de Fortibus, Lady of the Wight, chatelaine of Carisbrooke Castle. She died in 1293 aged 56.
Not far away is Borthwood Copse a National Trust sanctuary of flowered beauty.
