This small and historic port on the Solent is linked by a causeway to the Freshwater peninsula.
In the Church of St James is a white marble statue of Sir Robert Holmes who was governor of the island in the 17th century, the head is of Sir Robert, but the rest was a statue of Louis XIV captured from the French.
