URPoint Details
Four tenants had holdings here in 1086, two of whom had manors. 1346 saw Hugh Curteys living at the manor, a man of considerable wealth for in 1379 he gave a loan to King Richard II. The same Hugh rebuilt Wymington church where he and his wife are buried.
In 1472 Anthony, Earl Rivers became heir to the estate, and he was a loyal supporter to King Edward V who was beheaded at Pontefract by order of the Duke of Gloucester without any trial.
