The village is a conservation area and 350 acres of the surrounding farmland has been designated a Country Park.A 13th century pack-horse bridge, a ruined 16th century Hall said to be the original of ‘Ferndown Manor’ in Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre. The house is said to have been haunted by the ghost of a horseman.
