URPoint Details
The town's skyline has been dominated by the magnificent tower, St Giles Church one of the 'Seven Wonders of Wales', for the last 500 years.
The view from the summit may have changed dramatically over the centuries, and especially in the last few years as the town centre has been transformed, but the church remains a great centre of pilgrimage and a major tourist attraction.
If you have a head for heights, climb the 150 steps up the great tower and look out over Wrexham. Why not arrange a group trip up the tower by calling the Parish Office on 01978 355808.
St Giles has the size and atmosphere of a cathedral and a host of architectural wonders, from a roof adorned with 16 colourful angels to fine stained glass and one of the oldest brass eagle-lecterns in Britain.
Look out, too, for the early Tudor wall painting of the Last Judgement, which was lost for centuries behind whitewash and, perhaps most famously of all, the tomb of Elihu Yale.
The great Welsh American, benefactor of Yale University in the USA, is buried only a few feet from the tower.
