WORTHINGTON (including Griffydam and Newbold)
The Parish of Worthington, to the northeast of Ashby-de-la-Zouch, includes the villages of Worthington, Newbold, Griffydam and Gelsmoor. The countryside is pleasant, open and undulating, with fine views to the east of Charnwood Forest. It is a predominantly agricultural Parish.
The Parish Church of St Matthew is an early 13th century building standing on Saxon foundations.
The site of one of the earliest railroads with its tunnels, bridges and embankments, runs through the villages of Newbold and Gelsmoor. It was built to the design of George Stephenson.
