The first stone of the ill fated original Tay Bridge that carried the railway into Fife was laid here in 1871, and the present bridge was built between 1883 and 1888.
Wormit: 'the serpent' worm (Norse) and et which is the article. Said to be the first village in Scotland with electricity.
