Woodhorn Colliery, one of five pits owned by the Ashington Coal Company, closed in 1981 and the original pit building now record 200 years of mining in southeast Northumberland.
You are also invited to eavesdrop on the miner's wife in her 1930's kitchen and on the miners playing dominoes in the social club.
Life and work in Ashington since the 1930' is vividly portrayed in the Pitmen Painter's gallery.
The Colliery museum situated in the country park features a lake, marrow gauge railway, small adventure playground and woodland - ideal for rambles and picnics. The park is also the venue for events including the Miners picnic, colliery bands, vintage car rallies and family fun days.
