URPoint Details
A picturesque village in the centre of an outstanding conservation area, in the heart of the Norfolk Broadlands, where the river Bure flows out to sea at Great Yarmouth.
The marshes support thriving plants and animals native to Broadland. These same marshes were not that long reed beds and locals used to harvest the crop and moving the reed in flat bottom boats called lighters along the dykes, and the reed was used for thatching.
The flint 15th century church is a fine example of Norfolk thatching, and it is unusual in that it is dedicated to two saints: St Fabian and St Sebastian. The interior is Victorian, having been restored in the 19th century, and all the windows are stained glass.
