Essex University, in Wivenhoe Park is depicted in many of the paintings by Constable. The original house was built in the mid 1700's and enlarged in the 1850's.
Garrison House in East St is a fine example of decorated pargetting work. The Roundhead troops were stationed here in 1648 during the siege of Colchester.
