A hamlet built around a village green on the northern border of the Ashdown Forest.
Withyham and nearby Hartfield are on the Buckhurst Park estate of Earl de la Warr, whose family the Sackvilles have lived here since 1200.
The 17th century Church St Michael and All Angels is notable for its monuments particularly one to the Sackville family, the first being for Thomas who died at 13 in 1677 while 18th century banners hang in the Sackville Chapel
