URPoint Details

Nayland and Wissington now form part of the Dedham Vale in Constable Country and have the most stunning views, enjoyed by artists, anglers, walkers and photographers.Wissington is a farming hamlet with an attractive mill, a Norman church with interesting murals, and scattered cottages.

Abels bridge was originally built of wood in the 15th century and divided Essex from Suffolk. In the 16th century a hump bridge was built to allow barges to navigate the river. It was renovated in 1959, and the keystone transferred from the old bridge bears the letter ‘A’ and a bell.

The beautiful church of St James was the second church to be built on the site in 1400. One of the two Constable's religious paintings hangs in the church and the other is in the Church of St Michael in Brantham.
