URPoint Details

Garden has wheelchair access.

The finest property in Wisbech is perfectly positioned in the centre of North Brink.

A town house built in 1722 for Jonathan Peckover, a banker who founded a bank later incorporated with Barclay's Bank. The building is a 3 storey, 5-bay block of yellow brick, with red-brick dressings and a rusticated front doorway framed by Tuscan columns beneath a curved pediment.

Venetian window with triple lunette on the garden front, was probably added after the house was built. The house has fine wood and plaster rococo decorations, and the rooms are excellent with panelling, Georgian fireplaces and carved over-mantles. The staircase is elegant, as is the landing.

The house was given to the National Trust by his daughter Alexandrina in 1943. The beautiful mixed collection of paintings, including several portraits of the Cornwallis family and several of the Peckover family, as well as a picture by an unknown artist of the 17th century Wisbech Castle, furnishings, furniture and porcelain are either on loan or have been donated.

There is a small exhibition devoted to Octavia Hill, one of the founders of the National Trust who was born in Wisbech. An 18th century
