At the east of this little village of thatched roof cottages is a forest of cypress and hardwood trees. The west end is beside a poplar lined, slab-bridge stream.

The church is a grey building with a medieval spire and six-sided steeple stands in a glade near where the trees were thickest. On the south wall of the exterior is a sculptured angel, which, according to legend dates from about 950 and one of the oldest piece, of sculpture in England. The font is Anglo-Saxon.

The chalk streams of which there are two in Dorset and in summer they retreat underground, but the one here ripples all year.
