URPoint Details
The Church of St John the Baptist was built in 1820 by Charles Hollis and enlarged by a polygonal apse later in the century.
The slender iron piers and roof are unusual. There are some fine mosaics by Salviati in the apse.
The beautiful railings of the South chapel were carved by Grinling Gibbons, originally for Windsor Castle Chapel, and given to the church by George III.
A 17th century German painting in the west gallery vividly evokes the Last Supper.
