URPoint Details
A quiet little town laid out by Edward I in the 13th century to replace an earlier town.
One of the oldest buildings is Court Hall, parts of which dates back to the earliest days of the town, and was restored in the 16th century.
The town stands on the site of a medieval town, founded in 1288, to replace an earlier town of the same name, sometimes known as Old Winchelsea, which was lost to the sea
The 14th century Church of St Thomas Becket stands on a green and only the chancel and side chapels remain. There are several monuments and a wall painting also from the 14th century.
