URPoint Details

A pretty village of flint and brick thatched cottages set among tall trees at the southern end of Cranborne Chase.
St Giles House was built in the 1650s by Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 1st Earl of Shaftesbury and has belong to the Earls ever since. A curiosity in the grounds is the Shell Grotto made by an Italian in 1751.
The church, built in 1732 was rebuilt in 1910 after being destroyed by fire in 1908. The Scottish architect Sir Ninian Comper has created a beautiful interior.

The almshouses next to the church were built in 1624.

Knowlton Rings, 1½ miles southwest stands a ruined church amid dark woods and is encircled by a Bronze Age bank.
