The first Wimbledon Tennis champion was Britain’s Spencer Gore in 1877. It was the world's first official lawn tennis tournament, and was later recognised as the first Grand Slam tournament or "Major"
It was in 1987 that the last wooden racquet was played at Wimbledon.
