URPoint Details
In 1086, the village of 23 inhabitants was included in the Domesday Book as Winessamtede.
Before Henry VIII’s Reformation the church belonged to the convent at Elstow. One Sunday night on the 11th April 1742 at 9.30pm the church tower and bells fell down.
A Wesleyan chapel had been built in 1808, then in 1841 a new chapel was built around the old one and on completion, the old chapel was demolished. This too had its troubles for the ceiling fell down one Sunday just after two christenings. In 1967 a new Methodist church was built and this church is the one in use today.
