Wigmore Castle, (EH), 11m northwest of Leominster; free entry; dogs on leads allowed.
There has been a castle at Wigmore since the 1060s, and the present ruins date from the late 13th and early 14th centuries, when the Mortimers were at the height of their power. The castle was dismantled in 1643 by parliamentary troops during the Civil War, and remains very much as it was left then.
