Whalley

An attractive town on the banks of the River Calder, with the remains of a 13th century Cistercian abbey including part of the chapter house and 14th century gateway which is looked after by English Heritage. Stones from the original abbey can be seen in the walls of the 16th and 17th century churches, farms and houses nearby.
