The Norman church of St Mary Magdalene is magnificent and stands on a hill. The massive 28ft square tower dates from 1200.
A village with character has had its share of famous residents.
Patrick Bronte who in 1806 took up a position as curate and later moved to Yorkshire where he had one son and three daughters, Emily, Anne and Charlotte.
Anne Boleyn also visited the village and there is a glass window of her in the church.
