West Witton - "Owd Bartle" takes place Saturday nearest to St Bartholomew's Day (24 August) each year.
The villagers carry an effigy of an old character known as "Old Bartle", through the street to Grishill singing "At Pen Hill Crags he tore his rags. At Hunters Thorns he blew his horn. At Capplebank Stee he brake his knee. At Grisgill Beck he brake his neck. At Wadham's End he couldn't fend, At Grisgill End he made his end’. When they reach the spot where legend has it, that he died they burn the effigy on a bonfire.
