West Dean College is housed in a beautiful Grade II Edwardian mansion, surrounded by landscaped gardens and parkland. The College runs an inspiring year-round programme of short residential courses in contemporary and traditional crafts, the visual arts, photography, music and gardening lasting from 1 to 9 days. The typical programme includes courses in blacksmithing, calligraphy, drawing, painting, picture framing, sculpture, stained glass, textiles, willow work, woodcarving and many more. There are also 10 full-time Diploma programmes available in the Conservation-Restoration of Antique Clocks, Antique Furniture, Books, Buildings Interiors and Sites, Ceramics, and Fine Metalwork, as well as Tapestry Weaving, Musical Instrument Making, Painting and Drawing, and Art and Site, all of which are validated by the University of Sussex.
Features of the award winning gardens at West Dean include 35 acres of immaculately maintained ornamental grounds that are linked to the sylvan 49-acre arboretum by the Parkland Walk, a peaceful stroll through a manicured landscape, and the lavishly planted 300ft long Edwardian pergola is terminated by a flint and stone gazebo and sunken garden.
