URPoint Details
A delightful downland village with flint and half-timbered buildings, in the valley of the River Lavant and Friston Forest which sweeps up to the north.
The church has a gabled tower and some fine 17th century monuments and nearby stands the rectory dating from the 13th century.
Beech, horse chestnut and elms grow in the park.
A village with mellow cottages with pretty gardens and a walk over the hill will take you to Exceat Farm and up a small narrow road is Charleston Manor a mix of Norman, Tudor and Georgian. The Domesday Book records that the manor was owned by William the Conqueror Cup bearer, under the name of Cerlestone.
