Bradenham Hall was built in 1760 and first owned by Lord Nelson's sister Mrs Bolton. Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton visited the Hall often.
The Haggard family bought the Hall and Henry Rider Haggard was born on 22 June 1856. He went to the Transvaal before he was 20 and became the Master of the High Court when he was 32. He wrote his first book "Dawn" published in 1884 and "King Solomon's Mines" in 1886.
The church of St Andrew's is mainly 13th century with later additions. There are brasses to the Haggard family.
