The cathedral may not be the largest cathedral in England, but is certainly one of the most beautiful. The west front is decorated with 400 statues of saints, angels and prophets, and although many of them were damaged in the 17th century. The cathedral was begun in the 12th century and finished during the 14th century and later additions are some impressive inverted arches supporting the main tower, and dominate the interior at eye level.
The astronomical clock in the north transept was made in 1392 and is one of the oldest working clocks in the world and has figures which move when the hour is struck.
