URPoint Details
After the Civil War the manor of Weeley was up for sale and a Doctor William Weoley from London bought the estate. The village was then known as Weeleigh and in old documents there have been 39 variations of the spelling. William Weoley changed his name to Weeley to ensure the correct name used.
Weeley was never noted for its growth, as at the time of the Domesday Book there were 11 tenants, 9 smallholders and 4 serfs who with their families made up the total of 120. The 1801 census showed a growth to 387.
