URPoint Details

A small coastal hamlet is all that remains of a once important tow, large enough to have been divided into Waxham Parva and Magna, and records show of its existence for over a thousand years are known. Erosion by the sea has caused its demise and only part of Waxham Magna remains.

Drainage mills were once a feature of the landscape and one still stands at Lambridge Staithe situated on the New Cut, an artificial waterway from Horsey Mere. Wherries took grain from local farms to Yarmouth and brought coal on the return trips.

Waxham Hall is an imposing flint faced building believed to be the original Hall built in the 12th century. A cobble and flint wall surrounds the property some 12ft high.

The church of St John has been restored and has a register which dates back to 1713.
