Situated at the foot of the Chiltern escarpment has a brick market hall dated 1664 in the centre of the town and where Georgian houses blend with stone and timbered buildings.
To the southeast is Watlington Hall, a splendid viewpoint at nearly 800ft high.
To the northeast is the 14th century and later moated Shirburn Castle.
