URPoint Details
An ancient village situated on the site where a Roman road crossed the River Ouse. In the 14th century it was known as West Stratford. The village is picturesque and stands on a gentle slope above the river. Not surprisingly its oldest surviving buildings are the Manor House and the Church. A stone on the present Manor House is dated 1598.
The charm of the Church lies in its ancient simplicity rather than towering splendour. There are still traces of an early 12th century Church and the Norman features are its most significant aspects.
