Washington Old Hall, (NT), The Avenue, 5m W of Sunderland. Open April to end October (closed Friday & Saturday when the property is available for parties and weddings) 11am-5pm. Last admission 4.30pm. Admission charge. No dogs allowed.
Disabled parking next to Hall through main gates on left; parking is limited. Hall: from car park, approach along back of Hall to avoid one set of four steps; then two steps up to door. Three rooms accessible on the ground floor. Shop: in Old Hall. Garden: accessible; lower garden approached by a flight of steps. Recommended to visually impaired visitors; house has interesting contents, many of which may be touched; garden has scented plants and herbs.
The home of George Washington's direct ancestors from 1183-1288, and remained in the family until 1613 and was substantially rebuilt in the 17th century.
