URPoint Details
A pleasant town separated by the Green Belt from the more built up areas to the north.
The parish church has two ecclesiastical ‘firsts’. It was here that the new English prayer-book authorised by Edward VI was first used and its compiler, Archbishop Cranmer attended the service.
Four centuries later a service from the church was televised the first ever to be seen in Britain. It is basically still 13th century, has a 15th century wall painting of St Christopher.
The octagonal font is also 15th century and three piscinas are medieval.
