Waltham Abbey - Church of The Holy Cross and St Lawrence

Waltham Abbey The church of The Holy Cross and St Lawrence is Norman. The magnificent Norman nave survived destruction during the Dissolution. The tower of flint and stone was added in the mid-1500's. The windows have stained glass and wonderful the altar is made of American black walnut. In the Lady Chapel over the altar is a 14th century painting and the beautifully designed ceiling in the nave is a masterpiece painted by Sir Edward Poynter in 1860.
