An important Black Country industrial town, Walsall once known as the town of a hundred trades epitomises the diversity of industry carried on here.
The rebuilt hilltop church of St Matthew retains its Perpendicular chancel and below is an unusual vaulted passage. There are old carved poppyheads and choir-stalls and a window to Sister Dora (Dorothy Pattison), a famous nursing sister, whose statue stands in town.
