House: access over courtyard on flat ground from car park; ramped steps into house; access to 10 rooms on ground floor; and Doll's House collections. First floor not accessible to wheelchairs; 24 steps and no lift; phone for prior permission to transport disabled passengers to house and walled garden. Grounds: most paths through grounds suitable for wheelchairs, although some sections fairly steep, with steps; accessible footpath, 500 yds long, in East Woods, provides splendid views over Walled Garden, and to Paine's Bridge, the Wansbeck Valley and Shaftoe Crags; wheelchair access/exit routes via Four Beeches. Walled Garden: approached through East Wood; access to Conservatory along the terrace; no steps, but steps down from terrace to rest of walled garden; four parking spaces next to Walled Garden;
