URPoint Details
A pretty little village where the Scottish Museum of Woollen Textiles is located, and where to the north high above the River Tweed are some remarkable earthen terraces.
There is also good hotel called the Tweed Valley Hotel, which has an excellent a la carte restaurant and scenic views overlooking the river and valley.
To the east on the south bank of the river is the ruined Elibank Tower dating from around 1595 and built or enlarged by one of the Murray’s of Darnhall near Eddleston.
The daughter of this Murray, known as ‘Muckle Mouthed Meg’ married a Scott of Harden near Hawick and has been commemorated in ballads by both Hogg and Browning.
