URPoint Details
Wakerley St John the Baptist Church, (Churches Conservation Trust) Prominent on a hillside above the Welland Valley, the church is a noble Northamptonshire building. The magnificent 14th and 15th century tower and spire, the Perpendicular east window, the clerestoried nave with aisles each side and the long north porch all give a medieval impression. The chancel arch has a zig-zag pattern indicates 12th century origins and the beautiful and fascinating carvings on the capitals on which it rests are to be compared with the best work in England from around 1140. The robust font is 13th century. The Cecil monuments indicate long links with Burghley.
