Set in 165 acres of gardens and parkland created by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild in the 1880s from a bare hilltop site. Paths and roads blend with the contours and the banks are planted with semi-mature trees and underplanted with drifts of shrubs. An ornamental aviary of filigree cast iron and the aviary garden consists of˜Iceberg' rose beds, lawn and raised bedding within hornbeam hedges. The Fountain Terrace is bedded out in spring with wallflowers and tulips and in summer with geranium and ageratum.
