URPoint Details

Tucked away to the west of Long Stratton lies this quiet village of 1044 acres of flat or gentl-sloping land with a slow-draining clay and chalk subsoil which creates an environment as unique as the Broads or Breckland.
The soil, wet and muddy in winter, slowly dries until in late summer the clods become like concrete and huge cracks appear. The site has its own particular wildlife and flora expecially the cowslips and orchids. Farmers over the years have enabled most of the parish to be cultivated by installing a network of ponds, ditches, streams and underground drains, now home to a variety of waterside plants and animals.

The church of All Saints with its round Saxon tower and unusually large 14th century nave dominates the village. The tall Decorated-style windows in clear glass giving the nave a sense of height, space and is light and airy. During recent repairs to the windows a small, delicately-worked roundel depicting the Apostles was discovered and is now on display in the nave.
