URPoint Details
The village lies on the outskirts of Epping Forest between Waltham Abbey and Epping, and comprises two hamlets, Upshire or Upstra – which means ‘hilly road’ – Copt Green (Copt means top of a hill).
Its traceable history goes back to the Iron Age, when the earthworks known as Ambresbury Banks were constructed.
