Grounds assistance required for wheelchair users, otherwise accessible on impacted gravel and cobbled paths short grass with some slopes and banks benches provided. Cannon and powder barrels to touch in castle river and boat sounds in garden. Toilets have four steps.

This well-preserved 16th century gun fort was built to protect Queen Elizabeth I's warships. However in 1667 it failed to prevent the Dutch navy which stormed up the Medway destroying half the English fleet.
