Sitting by the River Lune with moated entirely rebuilt Thurland Castle to the south and Burrow Hall to the north is a fine house dating from 1730.
The church is Perpendicular in style with some 500 year old Flemish glass and a Roman altar stone built into a north window. Charlotte Bronte worshipped here and described it under the name of ‘Brocklebridge’ in her novel ‘Jane Eyre’.
