Standing in the shadow of York Minster, this elegant 17th/18th century town house, the site of the former residence of the Treasurers of York Minster, is set in a peaceful garden. An exhibition and video film show the development of the house from Roman times. The rooms house the collection of the Yorkshire industrialist, Frank Green, who lived here from 1897 to 1930.
As the house is small and tends to be crowded, severely disabled people are advised to make advance arrangements to visit. Introductory video (with induction loop) available on ground floor on request at Reception, for those who find stairs difficult.
Disabled visitors may be set down at the door. House: access is difficult, by arrangement a ramp can be made available for access into Great Hall allowing access to ground floor. Restaurant is approached by steep stairs not suitable for wheelchair users refreshments may be taken up to Gallery on the ground floor (please enquire at reception) thick handled cutlery available. Tactile pictures made by students of design in the house are in the exhibitions shirt scented pathway in garden.
