St James Church, (Churches Conservation Trust), was built in 1774 by Cuthbert Bisbrowne, with a chancel added in 1900, this is a plain brick building with a west tower, just southwest of the Anglican Cathedral. St James is constructed in red brick with stone dressings. Its plan consists of a five-bay nave, a chancel, and a west tower. Along the sides of the nave are two tiers of round-headed windows. The cast iron columns supporting the gallery are Liverpool’s oldest.
