Admission free; disabled facilities; toilets for key-holders. Towneley Hall was the home of the Towneley family from the early 1400's until 1902. The Hall was then sold to Burnley Corporation and became the town's art gallery and museum. The Hall is set in 24 acres of woodland and has a number of different rooms, including the Elizabethan Long Gallery, the chapel and kitchen. The Regency drawing room, with its striking red decor is one of the most impressive in the Hall, and has become one of its main attractions. Each year there are about 14 temporary exhibitions. These cover a variety of subjects from historical paintings and contemporary prints to photographic and craft exhibitions.. The museum has a fine collection of English oil paintings and watercolours, a large collection of Pilkington Royal Lancashire pottery, oak furniture, glassware, militaria, local history and archaeology. Local items are displayed in the Museum of Local Crafts and Industries, formerly a brewhouse and laundry.
