URPoint Details
The ruined Norman castle has a massive gatehouse with flanking drum-towers of the 14th century, as is the shell of the keep. The remains of the walls date from the 12th century. Inside the wall is a tremendous mound which may have been the site of an earlier Anglo-Saxon fort. In later years the castle passed through many owners and it now has been rebuilt and is used by the Tonbridge Council.
