URPoint Details
The village is famous for the six Tolpuddle Martyrs who formed a trade union in 1834 but were arrested and sentenced to seven years transportation to Australia but were pardoned after two years and sent home.
There are several memorials to the men in the village, including the ‘Martyr’s Tree’ on the village green.
