In this tiny village is a stone walled well, although very old still provides cool clear water.
Tollard, hidden in a hollow of the downs, within the old hunting grounds of Cranborne Chase, was designated ‘royal’ in the 12th century by King John. His house a lofty medieval stone building on the site of the royal hunting lodge was restored by General Sir Pitt Rivers whose family acquired the estate.
